I did not have high hopes for satisfying my ramen craving in Lafayette, Indiana, but Yatagarasu surprised me. There are two different restaurant locations: one in downtown Lafayette on Main Street and a second on State Street adjacent to campus.

The Main Street restaurant can get crowded at times because it's not a very large space, but has a nice casual vibe. The State Street location is really fun. It is mirrored after a Japanese noodle house so you enter and order and pay on a kiosk and then sit at the bar. The curtain raises, a bowl of noodles is slid before you, and you eat. It's a very efficient restaurant, but perfect for when I have an hour break and want something a little nicer than the fast food surrounding campus.

I often order the miso tonkotsu ramen and it is very good. The noodles have a bite and chew to them and the soup is flavorful and rich with umami. The soft boiled egg is perfect and their chashu is a little thinner than I prefer, but really delicious. They also have a variety of small plates that are excellent, the pork gyoza is one of my favorites.

For something a little different than the usual American restaurants, Yatagarasu is a gem. Let me know in the comments if you've dined here or if not, what your favorite ramen place is (Goma Tei in Hawaii still has a special place in my heart).

Shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05180057268687975814noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6205179022548177854.post-76923363598182081302021-07-20T05:00:00.026-07:002021-07-20T05:00:00.194-07:00Berry Picking at Annie's Orchard - West Lafayette, Indiana

The best part of the summer is the abundance of fresh produce. They brew their beer and a hard seltzer in house and have a rotating list on the tap. It is very much American bar food, but I haven't had a bad meal here. It's also extremely reasonably priced with beers around $5, cocktails around $8, and food for the most part under $18.

The Drinks

They have a cocktail list that changes seasonally. At the time of writing two of their drinks on the menu are a cranberry margarita and the Captain's beer. The former is a really delightful take on a margarita and the later a mix of Captain Morgan with a housemade rootbeer.

If you stop by, the beers on tap are the highlight. They have a wide selection of beers, my favorite being the While E Ki Yoti which is a fruity IPA that is perfect for the summer.

The Food

I never not crave the chicken and chips from Lafayette Brewing Company. It's like chicken tenders but better because it's beer battered like the fish in fish and chips is. I've also had sandwiches, salads, and their nachos and everything is great.

It might not be the fanciest restaurant on Main Street, but Lafayette Brewing Company is a place that I like to go when I want to catch up with a friend. There are a few tables outside that are first come first served, but as of summer 2021 the inside tables are spread for adequate social distancing.

Shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05180057268687975814noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6205179022548177854.post-28999182949737439462017-07-25T07:00:00.000-07:002017-07-25T07:00:16.473-07:00Musubi Cafe Iyasume

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I've been working crazy hours this summer (4pm-11pm) in Waikiki, which means that I'm usually eating dinner out of the house. Waikiki isn't known for being budget friendly, but I have found my go-to place to get cheap, quality, healthy food.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Musubi Cafe Iyasume has multiple locations throughout Waikiki, but I've been frequenting the one in the Aqua Pacific Monarch hotel because it's a two minute walk from the store that I work in. This store has a seating section, but you absolutely need to get the food to go. I usually eat it in the break room at work, but you should eat it on the beach (preferably watching the sunset).
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Musubi Cafe has musubis (duh!), but also bentos, different bowls, udon, and more! It also functions as a convenience store, so you can get all your chips, soda, and ice cream. My go-to is either a mini beef bowl or a mini curry bowl with a salmon musubi and an iced coffee. My total is usually slightly over $5 (they have a $5 minimum for credit card purchases) and keeps me full all night long.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">This is absolutely the place to go if you need food FAST! I have never waited more than five minute to get my food and the workers are the nicest people ever. Honestly, I've waited so much longer to order and get my food at the McDonalds down the street and the food at Musubi Cafe will beat McDonalds all day everyday.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">There's nothing I love more than a good coffee shop, and Kai Coffee is one of my favorites. There are two locations, one in downtown and the other in Waikiki, but I frequent the Waikiki one more often as it's right next to my work.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">They have all the normal coffee and tea drinks that are found at a cafe, but they also have a few specialties. The signature drink at Kai Coffee is the Kai latte, a macadamia nut drink topped with a chocolate covered macadamia nut. I usually go for the cold brew, iced latte, or their iced matcha green tea latte. If you've been around for a while, you know that I am a sucker for anything matcha and they make a great latte. It's definitely not as sweet as something you'd find from Starbucks, but it is perfectly balanced and high quality.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Kai Coffee also has a selection of baked goods and sandwiches. I usually don't get food, but I've tried their cranberry scone before and it was really good.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Pricewise, it's definitely on the higher side (especially compared to Starbucks or other coffee chains), but you're paying for quality. If you're a local, they also offer a Kama'aina discount (I believe it's 25%, but I'm not sure).
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Let me know in the comments if you've ever tried Kai Coffee or know of any other great coffee shops!
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">If you follow my food instagram account, @siennasfoodpics, you have probably seen the beautiful picture of my sandwich from Sup. Before we get into the rest of the post, let's start with a quick story. Ever since I moved to Reno, people have told me to eat at Sup and that Sup is their favorite restaurant. Me, being the weirdo that I am, listened to them rave about the restaurant, but never actually ate there. Today, that all changed. I went for dinner with my roommate and her friend and it was life changing.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Sup is a restaurant in Midtown that serves amazing soups, sandwiches, and salads. Like a lot of the cutest cafes and restaurants in Reno, it is built in a repurposed house. There is also plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, which comes in handy because it can get crowded at times. When I went, my roommate ordered the BBQ chicken sandwich, I got the turkey pesto sandwich, and my roommate's friend got the steak salad.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">All of their sandwiches come with a side of the cranberry salad and everything comes with a cookie. My sandwich had turkey, pesto, provolone, avocado, tomato, lettuce, and sprouts. It was really good and super filling. I got the whole sandwich because I was hangry, but next time I'll get the half because I didn't finish the whole sandwich. Price-wise, it's pretty on par with what I spend at typical sandwich shops. My go-to "healthy" lunch is the turkey pesto from great full gardens, which runs about $10, which is the same as the sandwich from Sup.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I don't know if this is the best restaurant I've eaten at, but it joins my list of great lunch spots (also on the list, Homage, Great Full Gardens, and Laughing Planet). Let me know if you've eaten here before and your thoughts in the comments!

Now that the initial buzz has died down a bit (as have the crowds), I went for lunch with my mom. We went right when they opened on a Saturday, anticipating that it would be crowded if we went later, but even when we left at noon, there wasn't a long wait. I believe they don't take reservations, so if you're trying to avoid a wait, I'd go right when they open!
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">They like to do "family style" food with regular portions, meaning that they encourage sharing even though each item is only large enough for one person. I ordered the Hanoi Shrimp Cold Noodle and my mom got the Vegan Pho and we shared. The cold noodle dish was incredible! The shrimps were marinated with tumeric and some other spices and were served with vermicelli noodles and an herb salad. The dressing was a fish sauce that had the perfect blend of sweet, sour, and spice. The vegan pho was served with tomatoes and mushrooms and was really good as well. The depth of flavor of the broth was insane considering no animal products were used and it was really well balanced. I thought the tomatoes were an odd addition, but everything worked well together. They have a normal pho (with meat) on the menu as well.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">If you go to Piggy Smalls you need to get a dessert! They have a wide range of dessert options including a homemade slushy that changes flavor weekly (it was Li-hing pineapple when I was there, although I didn't try it myself). We did get the Milk and Honey, which is their signature dessert. It's a sponge cake with a milk soak served with bee pollen, honey, and a candied honeycomb. On paper, it doesn't sound particularly special, but it was amazing. 10/10 would recommend!

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">In the future, I'd love to go back to Piggy Smalls and try the Laotian Chicken because I've heard amazing things about that and the Pho-Strami sandwich. You can check out Piggy Small's full menu here, and let me know in the comments if you've eaten here before!

I am obsessed with juice bars and places to get acai bowls. Since my beloved Salted Lemon closed a couple months ago, I've been trying to find a nice replacement. Juic'd Life is a juice chain with one location on Oahu. It is located in the SALT complex in Kaka'ako.

When you walk in, there's a huge fridge of pre-made, bottled juices. I have never tried the juices myself, so I can't tell you much, but they do have samples of all juices available so you can taste before you buy (which I LOVE).

The only reason I went was for the acai bowls. There are four different bases that you can choose from. Acai, acai greens, acai with rice protein, and prickly pear.I opted for the acai greens, which didn't taste like vegetables at all (YAY!). After you pick your base, you can choose as many toppings as you'd like. On mine, I opted for banana, blueberry, coconut, almond, bee pollen, and honey. There are countless ways to customize your bowl, and you can see the full list of toppings here!

The great thing about Juic'd Life is that the bowl is a set price so you're not charged per topping like other places do. They also do the same thing with salads (pick a base and unlimited toppings for a set price), which could be nice if you're on the go.

Is this a replacement for my Salted Lemon addiction? Maybe. I like the concept and customization, but it's hard for me to fall for a chain juice bar instead of supporting local ones. Also, I really did not like the parking structure at SALT and would highly recommend parking ground level by Starbucks instead.

Let me know if you've ever tried Juic'd Life and what your favorite place to get juices/acai bowls are on the island!
It's located in Ala Moana and has been hyped up like no other. I've eaten there twice, once for lunch and another time for breakfast, so I thought I'd share my thoughts.

Breakfast:
My mom and I went to breakfast around 9:30 on a Sunday and this place was pretty packed. We only waited five minutes for a table, but the entire restaurant was full. My mom ended up ordering a croque madame, while I got the berry french toast. The croque madame was good, although a touch salty, while the sauce on the bottom of the french toast completely made the dish amazing. Obviously the star of the dish is the bread on both plates because that's what they're known for. Both our dishes also came with the AYCE bread, which was amazing. My favorite bread was the croissant or the corn one, but they have unique ones too (like bacon bread!)

Lunch:
The lunch and the dinner menu are the same (I believe) so this is kind of a review for both. At lunch I got the porcini mushroom pasta. The mushrooms were good, but the pasta had a lot of bacon, which wasn't my favorite. If you're going for lunch or dinner and are planning on loading up on the bread (or trying all the different bread) it might be smarter to get a salad or something less carb heavy so you don't get too full.

Service:
This is where Cafe Lani starts to look a little less stellar. At breakfast my mom and I were seated at the communal table in the middle of the restaurant and both the couple on our left and our right made comments about not wanting to return because of the service. I don't think that the service is necessarily *bad*, but it's not good either. The food took a long time to come out both times I've eaten there, and sometimes depending on where you're seated, you might not get the AYCE bread when the waiter is offering it to the tables. Breakfast took about an hour, which I don't think is too bad, but if you come here, know that you come for the food and not the service.

Overall I think that this restaurant is a bit overhyped, but it is one of those places that you need to eat at once if you're interested in it. It also seems important to mention that they do siphon coffee, which looks pretty rad (although I can't vouch for the taste) and they are also known for their instagram worthy dessert parfaits, so it might be worth it to just stop by for dessert after eating somewhere else.
Maybe it's just me, but theme park food always seems to be really expensive and subpar. That's not the case at Harry Potter World at Universal Studios Hollywood! Here's what you need to check out!

BUTTERBEER! This is the most iconic drink from Harry Potter world! My family went to Universal Studios 5 days, and each day we got a butterbeer to share! I will say that I only ever tried the frozen one because I've heard from so many people that it's the better one, so try the normal one at your own risk. It is so hard to describe this drink, but it is cream soda-esque with a hint of butterscotch and a really smooth, sweet finish. It's seriously perfection in a cup.

Three Broomsticks: This is the restaurant within the Harry Potter World. You need to head there for lunch or dinner to really get the best selection of food! In the top picture you can see the shepherds pie and the ribs and the bottom picture is the sticky toffee pudding. The shepherds pie was seriously so good and although my picture makes all the food look small, it was a really generous portion. The sticky toffee pudding is a must eat! It's a beautiful cake covered in caramel and a toffee sauce with a scoop of ice cream on top. If you visit with a larger group, you can get the "great feast" which includes chicken, ribs, salad, corn, and potatoes for $50. I've heard from a worker there that she's seen groups of 6 that haven't finished that meal, so it's a pretty good value!
While this isn't the cheapest place to eat (what theme park restaurant is?!?), it really isn't that expensive either. My mom has said we spend more on food at casual dining restaurants at home than we did at three broomsticks!
It was originally an Oregon chain, but there are two locations here in Reno, the newest one being a two minute walk from school! For the uninitiated, Laughing Planet is a health food place with an abundance of plant based and vegan foods. If you were to give it a genre, I guess it would be "mexican" because they have burritos, quesadillas, and bowls, but within that genre there is plenty of variation (korean burritos? thai bowls? yes, and yes!)
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I got the Thai bowl, which was green beans, broccoli, brown rice, tofu, peanut sauce, and a slaw. It was completely vegan, which was great, and it was insanely tasty! My friends got quesadillas and one got the kale salad, which she raved about! The portions aren't huge, but everything was really filling. I went in to dinner reasonably hungry, but ended up taking a fourth of it home as a snack for later. Price wise, it is a bit on the higher side (my food was $9.16 with tax), but everything is so fresh that I feel like it's worth it.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I am definitely going to make this one of my go-to spots, and I am so excited to try everything (especially the seoul burrito minus the cheese)! <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">UPDATE: In the two days that's passed since I first ate at laughing planet, I've already revisited it! This time I got the Cuban Burrito, which was huge (but I ate it all), delicious, and nothing like I've ever eaten before. When you read the description, you'll likely be confused. BBQ sauce? Plantains? Sweet potatoes? But it was seriously delicious and maybe, possibly, the best burrito I've ever had.
One of those houses is Hub Coffee Roasters, which I'm going to talk about today! (The others are Laughing Planet, The Mill Juice, and some bike shop). There's another Hub located in the Riverwalk district, but I've never been to it because it's a little inconvenient for me to get to.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The menu at Hub is pretty concise, but it is really good, simple coffee. I usually get an almond milk mocha, but I've heard the caramel latte is good as is the cappuccinos. None of the drinks are particularly sweet, so if you need a lot of sugar with your coffee, this may not be your place. They have almond milk if you don't like dairy, but they also use California standard dairy so supposedly they're able to make a really good microfoam (or so the barista says).
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The decor is crazy amazing here! It is so minimalist and bright and they have beautiful artwork on the walls. There is seating on the bottom of the cafe, but you could also go upstairs for more seating. There's also free wifi and cute succulents everywhere. This is seriously one of those places where you can go to get amazing foam art for your instagram pictures!
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I definitely think that I'm going to be spending a lot of time here (or at the MIll or Laughing Planet) during my time here in Reno because it is so convenient and great to study at! There's only two more weeks here in Reno before I fly back to Hawaii for the summer, so get excited for more tropical posts in a couple weeks!
-Sisi
It was a nice museum, but not quite my favorite. I really like modern art, and it was a little light on the exhibits. It did have a lot of native american art (almost two whole floors), and had a decent amount of ancient asian and middle eastern art.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The entrance fee is $19.99 for adults, free for children 17 and under, and $16.99 for college students and seniors. The first thursday of each month is free and every friday after 5pm, tickets are only $5. I would totally recommend going during these discounted times because unless you're really in to art, I don't know if the admission price is worth it.
When in Portland, this place was Kure Juice. There are multiple locations, but the one I went to was near Pioneer Square.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Some locations of Kure has macro bowls, but they all have juices, smoothie bowls, and smoothies. I am obsessed with this place and 10/10 would recommend!
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The bowl that I got is called "Bowl of the Gods." It was a peanut butter acai base with coconut, goji berries, granola, strawberries, and bananas on top! This bowl was so filling and had the most incredible texture combos with the crunch of the granola, the chewy of the berries, and the peanut butter might seem odd, but really works with this!
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I also got a bottled juice while I was there. They have so many different types of juice, but this one was amazing! They also have smaller juice shots that looked pretty good as well!
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Kure Juice was amazing and I loved everything that I got! I would definitely recommend heading to one for a healthy meal or snack!
They do small batches of ice cream in some unique flavors. This was also one of the places that came to me highly recommended, so I had to try it out!
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The locations of the stores weren't really convenient for me to get to while I was in Portland, but there is a stand inside the Moda center, so I got to try it out when I was at a Trailblazers game! The flavor I got was almond brittle with salted ganache. It was so insanely good, I can't even describe it! It was a bit pricy (but I got it in the Moda, so everything was pricey), I think that this cup was $7 or maybe $9.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I love Salt & Straw and I want to go back and try everything! There are also locations in Los Angeles and Venice Beach, so maybe I can go to those locations when I'm in SoCal this summer!
The Codmother specializes in fish and chips and is a food truck with some tables and benches to sit at. I got the Junior Fish and Chips, which was just the right size! The fish was delicious and the batter crisped so nicely without becoming too soggy. They also have a larger size with more fish and they have combo plates that have shrimp and fish. This place is always crowded, so be prepared for a little wait, but it is so worth it for some good seafood!

Let me know if you've been to the Codmother before, and what you think of it! I really like this place and next time I want to try the crazy fries because those smelt so good!

The Lan Su Chinese Gardens is one of the most authentic Chinese gardens outside of China itself. It is located in downtown Portland in the Chinatown district and is about a block away from the Chinatown Max station. I visited the Chinese Gardens and thought that I'd share some pictures and my thoughts with you.

Portland can by quite rainy, and the day that I visited was no exception. It was insanely rainy, but the good thing about the garden is that there are places within it to wait out the rain. There's also a tea house that has snacks as well, although I didn't have a chance to check that out. The garden is quite small, but it is so spectacular. Everything from the plants to the layout of the stones on the ground itself is so perfect and beautiful. The water features were so cool and everything gave the gardens a serene vibe. They do have guided tours, but just wandering and exploring was good enough for me.

Now let's talk price. Admission into the garden is $9.50 for adults, but $7 for college students with a school id or for children under 18. I don't know if this is particularly worth it, because while it was gorgeous and incredible, it was quite small and that price point seems a little steep. That is a decision that you're going to need to make for yourself, although I highly suggest paying the admission once just to experience the gardens for yourself.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">This is a bit different than other brunch spots because it's cafeteria style. You go to the front and place your order, get a number, and find a seat. Supposedly this place gets busy at times, but I was here at 10 on a Friday and it was pretty much empty. You can also get your boozy brunch on here because they have a Pinot bar! The location of this is really great as well. It's right next to Shokudo on Kapiolani near Ala Moana. For parking, I'd suggest going in to the mall parking right next to the restaurant instead of parking at the restaurant, which is behind the restaurant and a further walk. Either way, parking is free and abundant!
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">For breakfast I had the taro banana pancakes, which were delicious! It was really heavy on the whipped cream, but I liked it like that! My friends had the french toast, which looked huge and awesome as well and the dashimaki (an egg, rice, and ham dish) that looked really cool as well. The acai bowl also looked good, but I'd suggest going with the large for a full meal! They do have coffee here, and they do latte art, which is awesome! I didn't try any myself, but my friend had a mocha that she said was amazing.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I want to come back another time for lunch or dinner because I hear this place does really great salads and pizza. For all you 21+ people, they also do a Paella Tuesday, where $20 will get you paella and a glass of pinot!
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I definitely like this place a lot! The interior is really modern and beautiful and the food was delicious! The staff was also ridiculously nice and talked to us for a bit when we first walked in. Let me know if you've gone here for breakfast or what your favorite brunch spot (in Hawaii or elsewhere) is!
It's home to the fish auction and amazing restaurants like Nico's and Uncle's. Today we're going to be talking about the latter as it's one of my absolute favorite restaurants.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">It's located in Pier 38, which is pretty central and really close to downtown. If you're familiar with streets, it's off Nimitz Highway and is really easy to get to. There is plenty of parking and when I went (Sunday lunch), it was pretty empty and there wasn't any wait.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The specialty here is fish. And there are a ton of options! When I was younger I would get the fish and chips, which are always super delicious, but the last time I went I got the sushi bowl. It comes with sushi rice at the bottom, salmon roe, ahi, salmon, spicy ahi, hamachi, and fried calamari. It was a huge serving and was so delicious! Everything was so fresh and the calamari was really, really, good. My mom got the fresh steamed clams and bread. It was so delicious and was cooked perfectly (no rubbery clams here!) But really, everything is delicious and I haven't eaten anything I disliked here! If you want to see the full menu, click here.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The one thing about this place is that it isn't cheap. But if you're looking for a nice meal with good food for a special occasion or if you need to treat yo self, then this place is perfect. I won't be home in Hawaii for another four months, but this was the best "last meal" before returning to the land of instant noodles, fried foods, and potatoes (aka college).
It's La Tour Cafe! Sure, they sell other food, but I've never tried it and everyone I know goes to La Tour for the macarons and nothing else!
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">There are two locations for La Tour, on Nimitz Highway and in Pearl City. They can also ship the macarons (I believe) if ordered online. There are so many different flavors and I haven't eaten one that I didn't like! The fruity flavors are always really good, but I also love their green tea and red velvet ones!
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">If you're less worried about appearances, they sell some of the older/damaged ones at the Windward Mall farmers market! The macarons can be a bit pricey (let's be real, macarons are always pricey) and this is a great way to try out a few different flavors without paying full price!
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">This is by far my favorite macaron place on the island, but I definitely want to try some of the other items on the menu in the future! Let me know if you've been here before, or if you're dying to go!
Brunch isn't something I do often, but my friends definitely know the best spots and we've been going crazy brunching this break! One of the places we went is The Nook.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The Nook is located in Puck's Alley on University Avenue. It is really a nook as it's a quite small restaurant with a few indoor and outdoor tables. The decor and ambiance is so on point, though, and I was obsessed!
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I ordered the papaya and ginger pancakes and my friends both ordered the mochi waffles. I had a bite or two of the waffles, so I can talk a bit about that as well! Holy cow this food was good! I loved these pancakes and I ate the entire thing! The fruit made it sweet, so syrup wasn't needed and the ginger added an interesting texture and flavor! It wasn't overly sweet, but was really satisfying and was a great change on the normal pancakes. Now for the waffles. That is something I'll probably get next time I'm there! I think they add mochiko into the batter so it has a beautifully sticky, dense texture that is so different from the norm.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I hear that the Nook is also known for the pork belly eggs benedict and the mochiko chicken and waffles, neither of which I've personally tried. I definitely want to go back (I'll probably end up taking my mom) and will probably be one of my go-to brunching spots in the future!
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Let me know what your favorite brunching spots are and where they're located (in Hawaii or worldwide!)
It's located in Koko Marina in Hawaii Kai and is super popular with both the locals and tourists, so I thought I'd share it with you today!
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">First off, let's talk about location. It's located in Koko Marina, which makes it really convenient if you're going to Hanauma Bay because they're so close together. It's a bit of a drive from town (around 25ish with minimal traffic), but it's a very chill drive because all you have to do is stay on the freeway then turn left.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">This is a pricier place, but if you're brunching as a treat, I think that this is really great. It's a little fancier than some other breakfast joints, but the menu items are all really good and everything tastes amazing! I've been a couple times and I've eaten everything from the shortrib loco moco (amazing) to the acai bowl (soooo big) and the fruity french toast (my personal favorite)! The one thing that I haven't tried yet is their eggs benedict. They have different variations of benedicts, but I haven't tried any of them yet! But every time I'm there I see people ordering it, so I bet it's amazing as well!
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Moena Cafe is a bit of a drive for me, so it's not somewhere that I go often, but it's always amazing when I'm there. This place is always crowded, though, so budget for waiting time because chances are there won't be a table ready when you arrive!
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Let me know if you've eaten here and what your favorite brunching spots (in Hawaii or worldwide) are in the comments!
-Sisi
This place is seriously my go-to for acai because it's pretty conveniently located for me, is locally owned, and delicious!

Salted Lemon is located in Liliha and is really close to downtown Honolulu. The parking situation isn't great because there's really only street parking available, but they do phone orders and curbside pickup so you can call ahead if you need take out! They specialize in health foods so you'll get your typical juices and smoothies along with acai bowls, papaya boats, and pitaya bowls.

I've tried two juices, a smoothies, and the acai bowl from Salted Lemon so far and I've loved everything! The acai bowls are pretty large and are always presented beautifully! This is seriously instagram worthy food! I've also tried the "Red Delicious" juice, which was beet and apple, which is amazing and something I'm definitely craving again and the "Going Green," which was cucumber, kale, pear, and mint. I'm usually not super in to green juices, but this was delicious and I felt healthy because they juiced a whole cucumber for it! The smoothie I tried was the watermelon one, which was a slushy consistency and also really amazing!

Price-wise, I feel like the prices are comparable to Jamba Juice or other juice chains, but the quality is so much better! Everything is made to order and all the produce are so fresh and quality.

I think that acai is such a must-do when visiting Hawaii, and honestly this is the best place I've found! A lot of my friends swear by banan, but I like this a lot better! Also, it's a lot more convenient than Haleiwa bowls and I think that it's nicer than a Lanikai Juice.
Everyone has been talking about it because they make the ice cream in store using liquid nitrogen and a stand mixer instead of an ice cream machine or a freezer. This store is in the new wing near Bloomingdale's and is the only Nitrogenie location in the United States. It is an international chain, though, with locations in Bali, Australia, Thailand, and England.

Each week they have seven flavors in store, and they rotate weekly I believe. The flavor that I got was "Mango of Summer," so that's what I'll be talking about today. The texture of this ice cream is so smooth and creamy! It doesn't have any of those ice crystals that can sometimes form, and has the best texture of any ice cream I've ever tried. These are also really gourmet ice creams with unusual flavors (maple syrup macadamia? salted caramel popcorn?) and it really shows! Instead of a normal scoop, they add something extra on top! For the mango one, they cut the ice cream to look like a mango, but for the lemon meringue, they topped each one with a little meringue. Mango of Summer was really delicious and was the one dairy free, vegan, flavor they had on the menu. It may have been vegan, but it definitely tasted as rich and creamy as any normal ice cream I've tried!

Liquid nitrogen ice cream sounds a bit gimmicky, but this was definitely worth the hype! There's usually a little bit of a line (it could be because the store's still relatively new), but it's definitely the best place to get ice cream in Ala Moana!
